What tax forms do I need?

The U.S. government requires all individual non-U.S. citizens or non-U.S. residents investing in U.S.-based assets to complete a W-8BEN form. The form is required when you open your account, when there is a change of circumstance, and every three years as the form expires. This can be complex; view the video for a step-by-step walk-through.

Have questions? Give us a call.

We have a team of dedicated specialists standing by to answer any questions related to opening or linking your Schwab account.

What to expect and how to avoid delays.

As you begin the process, we'll walk you through step-by-step. Take a look at a few of our helpful hints below.

  • Enter your personal information exactly as it appears on your pay stub.
  • Helpful tip: We recommend using your personal email for communications.
  • Please note: You must use your home address, not your company's address.
  • Your phone number must be 10 digits in length.

Please be sure to carefully check that your forms are filled out correctly. Any errors may cause a delay in opening your account.
